SUMMARY

Partnership will target decarbonisation in Western Australia.

By Dale Lunan

Canada’s Svante Technologies and Australia’s Pilot Energy said April 18 they had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on offering carbon capture and storage (CCS) solutions to hard-to-abate industrial emitters.

Under the MoU, Svante and Pilot will initially target the decarbonisation of an estimated 8mn metric tons/year of CO2 emissions from the Kwinana Industrial Area in Western Australia. Svante will provide its solid sorbent post-combustion capture technology while Pilot will store the captured carbon at its Cliff Head CO2 storage (CHCCS) project.

Pilot’s CO2 storage project is an integral component of its Mid West Clean Energy project, which will enable the permanent storage of CO2 and the production of blue and green hydrogen and ammonia. The CHCCS project has the potential to provide a carbon management solution for 15-25% of the Kwinana Industries Council members’ reported scope 1 emissions.
