Samsung Heavy, Pan Ocean collaborate on digital ship management

By Shardul SharmaKorean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) and Seoul-based shipping firm Pan Ocean will collaborate to develop digital solutions for ship management, SHI announced on September 19.
Under the agreement signed between the two parties, SHI will integrate its digital twin-based ship management platform into Pan Ocean's 174,000m³ LNG carrier, New Apex, in January 2024 for demonstration.
This AI-based ship management platform analyses navigation data in real time to enable integrated management and maintenance of all systems in a ship with optimisation, thereby maximising cost savings in ship operation, SHI said.
Following the demonstration of the platform, both companies plan to continue their collaboration to expand application of the digital solutions for autonomous navigation.
