RNG production facilities planned for Alberta, Nebraska.

Canada’s Tidewater Renewables said April 4 it had entered into a strategic renewable natural gas (RNG) and feedstock partnership with Rimrock RNG and Rimrock Cattle Company (RCC).

The partnership will secure feedstock supply for RNG and renewable diesel production by Tidewater Renewables and accelerate the diversification of Tidewater’s low carbon-intensity fuels product offerings.

Rimrock and its affiliates are one of the largest cattle feeding operations in North America and are expected to materially impact Tidewater’s RNG production capabilities, secured by 10- to 20-year offtake agreements.

Under terms of the partnership, Tidewater Renewables will invest C$30mn in exchange for a 50% ownership interest in RCC, including its associated cattle feeding operations and cattle inventory. RCC will control close to half the feedstock requirements for Tidewater’s renewable diesel facility and substantially all the feedstock for the RNG facilities that make up the partnership.

Tidewater and Rimrock RNG plan to build and evaluate a number of projects across North America through a separate partnership, the RNG facilities partnership, with the first, at High River south of Calgary, expected to be completed in Q1 2023. Three additional RNG facilities, in Alberta and Nebraska, are also being evaluated.
