Suma Capital, an investment firm committed to sustainable initiatives, has acquired 100% ownership of CH4T, a Verona-based company specialising in the management of biomethane plants for energy use, it said on January 12. This marks Suma Capital's first international deal.

CH4T specialises in acquiring and transforming biogas plants into biomethane facilities. The company is currently in advanced negotiations for ten plants in northern Italy, with plans to complete the acquisition of the first three plants in the initial weeks of this year, marking an initial investment close to €15mn.

"This transaction not only represents a strategic step towards the internationalisation of our firm but also underscores our continued commitment to investments that generate a positive impact on environmental sustainability and local economic development," said Enrique Tombas, chairman and founding partner of Suma Capital.

CH4T's medium-term objective is to acquire between 10 and 15 biogas plants, aligning with the 2022 Royal Decree, which allocates €4.5bn to promote biomethane as a substitute for fossil natural gas, Suma said.
