Keppel, partners start work on Singapore's 1st hydrogen-ready cogen facility

By Shardul SharmaKeppel Corporation, in collaboration with Mitsubishi Power and Jurong Engineering consortium, has commenced construction on the Keppel Sakra Cogen Plant (KSC Plant) – Singapore's first hydrogen-ready cogeneration facility, the companies announced on July 20.
Located in Jurong Island's Sakra sector, the state-of-the-art power plant will boast a 600 MW advanced combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT).
The plant is designed to co-fire with 30% hydrogen content, with the capacity to transition entirely to hydrogen as part of Singapore's power sector decarbonisation efforts. In addition to producing electricity, the CCGT power plant will provide steam for industrial processes, catering to energy and chemicals customers on Jurong Island.
The plant is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026. Initially operating on natural gas as its primary fuel, the KSC Plant is projected to save approximately 220,000 tonnes/year of CO2.
