Pipestone Energy in Canada, Northeast Natural Energy in the US, each earn certification

By Dale Lunan

The cohort of natural gas producers in Canada and the US earning certification of their output continued to grow January 20, with Canada’s Pipestone Energy earning EO100™ certification and Northeast Natural Energy (NNE), a West Virginia producer, receiving an “A” grade under the MiQ certification protocol.

Pipestone’s certification applies to its Wembley asset, which covers about 36,000 net ha (90,000 net acres) of the Montney formation, west of Grande Prairie.

“I am exceedingly proud of our company and team for achieving independent certification of our entire production portfolio through the stringent EO100™ standard,” Pipestone CEO Paul Wanklyn said. “We have always prioritised putting people first, minimising emissions, and building a well-governed company. To be one of the few energy companies in Canada to achieve independent certification speaks volumes about who we are and how we operate.”

NNE’s “A” grade from MiQ, meanwhile, follows on the heels of its certification by Equitable Origin in November 2021, when it became the first US producer to receive the EO100™ certification.

“We recognise the need for transparency in our operations and embrace the accountability that comes with monitoring and limiting our methane emissions,” CEO Mike John said. “The MiQ certification validates the work we do in the field and the effort we are making to manage our methane and greenhouse gas emissions.”
