NTPC, Mitsubishi Power plan hydrogen co-firing in gas turbines in India

Indian state-run power company NTPC and Mitsubishi Power, a unit of Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, have signed a memorandum of understanding on hydrogen co-firing blended with natural gas, NTPC said on October 17 in a stock exchange filing.
The project will be carried out in MHI 701D gas turbines installed at NTPC’s Auraiya gas power plant in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The total installed capacity of the plant is 663 MW with four gas turbines operating in combined cycle mode.
The study will identify key actions for co-firing for various percentages of hydrogen: 5%, 15%, 30%, 50% and 100%. The hydrogen required for the project will be supplied by NTPC.
NTPC recently signed a similar pact with GE Gas Power and Siemens.
